Read enough owner discussion and the pattern is clear. The most common complaints are not broken motors but confused electronics: a scale that needs recalibrating after the litter level changes, a drawer-full indicator that reads full too early or too late, a box that drops off Wi-Fi, and cycles that stop partway through with a warning light. Motor and gear failures do happen, and they are the ones that usually need a replacement part or unit.
Several of those problems are self-inflicted and preventable. Most boxes need to sit on a hard, level floor, not a mat, for the scale to read correctly; Meowant and Oneisall say so explicitly. Filling past the maker's line causes jams. And litter the maker rules out is the quickest way to a clogged screen.
