PETLIBRO says the sensor detects cats from 2.2 lb and sets a minimum age of 6 months. At the usual rate of about a pound a month, that means leaving automatic cleaning off until roughly 6 months. Below the threshold, a kitten may not register at all, and the box could start a cycle with it inside.

The Luma, PETLIBRO's only litter box, arrived in late 2025 with a camera, an open-fronted drum and a price well under the Litter-Robot 5 Pro. In its first weeks owners posted videos of the drum continuing onto objects placed where a paw might go, and some returned it immediately. A reviewer who flagged those problems to PETLIBRO later said the firmware changes that followed stopped him reproducing them, and PETLIBRO's own safety page now says a firmware update makes the drum reverse at contact.
Owners who kept it are more positive than the launch coverage suggests. They describe reliable cleaning, good odour control, a clear camera and easy maintenance, and cats that adapt quickly. The recurring complaints since are about durability and support rather than the sensors: worn drum gears within a year, a firmware update that took some units offline, and slow responses on warranty claims. The AI waste analysis costs extra and is inconsistent.
Multi-cat homes that want a camera box with an open front, and are comfortable keeping firmware current and watching the drum's gears, are who it is for. Buyers for whom the launch-week reports are disqualifying generally choose a Litter-Robot instead, whose anti-pinch sensing has a longer record behind it.
At launch, owners filmed the drum continuing to rotate onto objects after its sensors registered them. A reviewer who reported this to PETLIBRO says later firmware stopped him reproducing it, and PETLIBRO's safety page says the latest firmware makes the drum reverse at contact and tells owners to turn auto-clean off for any cat under 6 months or 2.2 lb. Keep the firmware updated, and use manual mode if your cat investigates the box while it cycles.
Owners have traced it to a worn drive gear on the drum, sometimes within a year. PETLIBRO has sent replacement drums or gears under warranty, one with revised gear spacing.
The box cleans without one. Video recordings and the AI waste analysis need paid plans, and owners note the waste analysis is a separate subscription from the main care plan.
A firmware update in April 2026 left some units stuck with a red Wi-Fi light. Support described it as a known issue; owners who could not reconnect after a reset contacted support for a fix or replacement.
